When life gets rough, singer-songwriter Laurie Jones rides it out with her music. Taking her own life experiences and crafting songs is a natural solution for Jones, who is set to release her latest studio album Dark Horse. Dark Horse is a 9-tracker showcasing her impressive storytelling. “It’s my version of a concept record twisting personal subjects, such as faith, self- acceptance, battling addictions and mental health into the message. Life can get messy, so it’s ultimately about making peace with all that messiness and landing on forgiveness,” states Jones, “being able to forgive not only others, but most importantly, yourself”. With a history for clever and sassy lyrics, Dark Horse paints a vivid musical landscape for all the above. The record kicks off with ‘That Summer’, an infectious and nostalgic track that seems timeless with its driving rhythms, bright harmonies and lead guitar. This, setting the scene for the rest of the album and inviting the lister into what feels confessional and sacred. Up next ‘Light Side’, a straight on rocker, has a powerful energy, incorporating gritty guitar riffs and a catchy chorus that feels like a gutsy teenage anthem. The song ‘Dazed,’ however takes on a mellow and smooth approach with its opening acoustic guitar and unique drum pace, leaving space for Laurie’s distinctive and emotive vocals. Dazed is also the one track on Dark Horse that was written by Torin Jones, who is also Laurie’s son. Deeper into the album, ‘Good Man’, the shortest of tracks, presents a reflective and melancholy approach. Produced with a clear visual in mind, it’s a warning of sorts. Written from the perspective of the antagonist ‘the truth can hurt you, and so will I’, ‘Good Man’ is a cautious tale. This leads perfectly into ‘No Hell’ which offers a powerful gospel-like vocal with the melodic hook of strings and blazing guitars as Jones belts “ain’t no hell like a hurt woman” with conviction and certainty. Later, and bringing the album to a definitive close is the song ‘Letting Go,’ which is the cleansing and emotional finale that leaves Jones “ready to take the dive” and clearly willing to forgive and move on. Noted and rightfully recognized is the emotionally packed performance that you will hear throughout this album. No doubt, Jones delivers am emotional vocal punch that commands attention from the listener. Dark Horse is a cathartic product that came from the turbulence of 2020. Jones was forced to slow down and observe her own life during an unprecedented time. Waking in the early hours of the mornings, and struggling with insomnia, she found respite with a guitar. “I was reminded of the best therapy”, which is music. Inspired by the likes of Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, The Rolling Stones and Melissa Etheridge, Jones creates a sound that is completely her own. Recorded at Halo Studio in Windham Maine, Dark Horse is Jones’ first album working with producers Darren Elder, Mehuman Ernst and Engineer Kevin Billingslea. Because of the pandemic, it was necessary to rely on a team approach to see the project through. Mirroring the album itself, the record required patience, trust and the ability to let go. These elements, no doubt resulted in a confident and even more defiant return for Laurie Jones who has delivered a very brave and bittersweet Dark Horse. Laurie Jones, dubbed previously as, "the missing link between Dusty Springfield and Tom Petty", takes you on a confessional journey with just enough gritty rock to make for one fierce travel companion. She has been often compared to both Chrissie Hynde and Lucinda Williams for her lyrical wit and melodic sass. This comparison she humbly accepts.

Laurie Jones Band: Bridges, is a reminder that Jones is here to stay as she continues to be a shameless "song bag". She is backed by her rock solid band and armed with the full Jones musical punch she is known for.

Are you ready for the truth? Laurie Jones releases "the truth about her" after several years of going underground. This collection of songs is a "best of", newly re-mastered, which tells the relevant story of not only being human, but embracing the art of surviving and not always knowing or abiding by the rules. Jones has paved her own path and proven so on the past three CD releases which have labeled her as a songwriting force. "the truth about her" is a prelude. It's a necessary pause to reflect and proceed. "the truth" is a musical message to hold on tight for what's coming next, as Jones throws her hat back into the arena for her next full band project due to release in late 2018.

"Laurie Jones": the third CD from a powerful singer-songwriter

For Immediate Release

With the release of her new self-titled album, Laurie Jones cements her status as a full-service indie singer-songwriter. Recorded in Portland Maine, with Jim Begley of "The Studio", Jones' third CD is refreshingly genuine and musically to the point. Front and center is her remarkable vocal performance; opening with "It Is Well With My Soul," Jones sets the album's tone via a glorious 19th century hymnal that evolves from despair and grief to forgiveness and liberation.

Backed by her long-time touring band, Jones crafts each song with a strong melody and lyrics that can be surprisingly frank and emotionally complex. "This record comes from the music I really love," explains Jones. "I allowed my gospel and country influences to face off with my rock demons." In doing so Jones has created a work of "transgenre rock 'n' roll."

The track "Overrated" finds Jones making commentary about the music industry. Of course it is all in fun, as Jones shares her challenge of having to straddle the grandeur of pop celebrity and the gutter of maintaining a day job to pay for studio time and promotion.

For those who need to classify and label her style, Jones' latest effort fits nicely into the "non-commercial adult rock" or "Americana roots," as well as the "college" or "indie" bin. However, Laurie Jones soars way above the pop rock fray and prefers "none of the above." She blazes her own trail as a unique songwriter with style and power to spare.

LAURIE JONES RELEASES HER NEW CD: "BETTER DAYS"

"Better Days" effortlessly straddles grandeur and the gutter. It is wild, optimistic, raucous and fun, a modern mix of melody, electronics, vintage guitar riffing...and the occasional tambourine.

From the majestic opener "Better Days" to the haunting confessional "Stilted," Jones and her cast of the usual -- and not-so-usual -- suspects deliver a widely varied collection of songs as stylistically diverse as the "White Album."

As one of the most intrepid women in rock'n'roll, Jones continues to pay tribute to everyone who has molded her writing and playing. From the Mick Taylor-like slide guitar of "Coffee Shop" to the rewiring of heavy synths in "Rebound" and "Under My Skin," Jones adds a bit of Pink to The Kinks. Her velvet vocals soar and her wit-pop lyrics prevail as she leads the new wave of New Wave.

"All my travels and opportunities for solitude have really paid off," says Jones. "The week in London in a tiny room and the winter days on the beach in San Diego allowed me to play my electric guitar and experiment with riffs. The time I spent in Halifax and Cape Breton Island also opened up my eyes and ears to a creative and vibrant world I never thought existed north of the 45th parallel."

"Raining In The Highlands," which was co-conspired by step dancer and friend Kelly MacArthur, describes love and life on the road in two high-spirited minutes. The track features fiddlers Steve Sporn and Colin Grant.

As pop's anti-bitch, Jones muscles on with "Joey, a rambunctious eulogy about a 20th century roustabout who upped the speed of rock'n'roll and encouraged all kids to sing and play guitar.

The musical touchstones continue to surprise as the band cow-punks their way through "Skeletons." Originally written as an emotionally charged folk ballad, its current incarnation is more of a swing-your-partner and stomp-your-feet power-polka-ska amalgamation.

An arsenal of Moogs sets the tone for "X-Ray Wow." Based on a 70s subterranean hit by "new rock pioneers" TV Toy, Jones pays homage to the Jersey rockers (as well as Brian Eno when he was still dressing like a woman), while making a sardonic commentary on the desperate world of indie rock. This glam-prog anthem - also inspired by the likes of Slade, The Sweet and Roxy Music - is a reckless way of Jones saying "thank you" for the 70s fashion and noise that shaped her developing brain while in utero.

The fun continues with "Padlock." Whimsical, ethereal and wishing it was Manson's "Beautiful People" or produced by Jimmy Page, this track is meaty, big and bouncy. "It's about being scared shitless and not being able to get your locker open at school."

"'Where I Stand' is the lonely, underproduced song, the runt of the litter," Jones continues. "It is a straight-ahead love song about a couple growing old together, tending their garden season after season, year after year. The classic life and love metaphor set to song."

What's left? "When we played small clubs three nights a week, the owners wanted us to keep the crowd dancing and drinking ," Jones says with a grin. "We found ourselves inventing a set of songs to encourage all that. 'Good Stuff' was one of them, a dance club improvisation inspired by the drunken dancefloor foreplay. It is our white soul, 'get the Led out,' funked-up booty shaker."

The disc also includes the bonus video, "Wide Awake," one of the most popular tracks from Laurie's previous CD, "After The Crash."

Meet Laurie Jones, the "chick rocker," the "modern mix of melody and electric riffs," the woman who "sings with power, personality, versatility and passion." That's how the press describes Jones and her music.

Since the release of "After The Crash," Jones has kept her band smart touring in the Northeast, Maritime Canada and the UK...created an active and ever-changing website...sold several thousand CD's...recorded the soon-to-be-released followup,"Better Days"...and won herself a devoted fan base and an impressive collection of enthusiastic reviews.

As one of the most intrepid women in modern pop music, Jones can successfully unleash her full-tilt electric band in a room full of intoxicated skeptics, or convert the same room to a house of worship with a solo acoustic set.

Jones credits her musical curiosity and lack of creative inhibition to Alice Cooper, Sonny and Cher re-runs and certain symptoms of attention deficit disorder.

"I actually should thank The Beatles, Stones and a variety of 'young dudes' for teaching me the value of writing the 3 or 4 minute hit song, " she says. All of this has combined to make Jones a prolific and pithy songwriter.

As a member of the "Gals With Guitars" club, Jones has been ardently compared with veteran rocker Chrissie Hynde and occasionally confused with newcomer Avril Lavigne, when all she really wants to be is Suzanne Vega's roadie.

Laurie Jones writes catchy songs, honors the traditions of folk music, leads a power-pop band and is a vivid and vibrant performer.
